TEAK BARGAINS

Today I was able to convince hubby to accompany me to nearby Scanteak for its Teak Furniture sale. I had been looking for a console for our dining room and it was a good opportunity to look for bargain console tables.

Teak wood is a durable material for furniture. It is so durable that most outdoor furnitures are made of teak wood since it can withstand rain, snow and other outdoor elements. We bought these teak stools for $3 .Its light weight and can be used as a chair and side table or as a mini table for our TV dinners.

My two boys already used them as foot stools.

The factory was just 5 minutes drive and there was a free shuttle bus that departs every 20 minutes from our place. We hopped on the bus and within a few minutes we were at the factory store.

Outside the building were displayed teak wood furnitures that were used as display pieces and were thus being sold at a cheaper price. There was even free roti prata and teh tarik(pulled tea with cream)for all shoppers.

There were also some household accessories on sale. Hubby and I were able to buy 6 pieces of teakwood bedroom slippers at $1 a pair.

We also bought two frames( a rose piece for $15 perfect for our dining room and another frame $8 for our living room area).

We were debating whether we were willing to pay the $50 delivery charge since I already saw my console which was selling at $199. Last minute we asked our shuttle bus driver if he could put in the console table in the van and he said OK.

So finally we were able to buy my console table at $199 and I happily parted with my $10 as tip for our shuttle bus driver.

We Are "On Diet" Mode

After months of endless eating and free meals bordering on gluttony, hubby has decided to go on a diet. I didnt have to prod him to do so...he did it voluntarily partly because he said he was having aches and pains all over(a sign that he really has gained so much weight) and partly maybe because he saw me going home with my body wrapped in slimming tape(yes siree its my second of ten sessions of the slim wrap treatments).

Yesterday was hubbys first day of dinner diet. He has planned out salad dinners for himself and has included me in his diet.

His salad is better than all the salads I have tasted so far since it has all the ingredients he likes. He has all kinds of wheat and leafy greens, huge red tomatoes, fresh celery, olive oil sauteed garlic, hard boiled eggs, crunchy baby carrots, mozzarella cheese and grapefruit .

Its quite filling and with freshly brewed coffee it really is a great dinner.

One proof that it is so good is that Nygel has asked his dad to make an extra bowl of salad for his dinner tomorrow.

Tomorrow hubby is planning a shrimp salad...Wow!

My HP 2133 Mini Note

Yes siree....I have a new laptop next month....a new HP 2133 Mini Note and the good thing is that its FREEEEEEEEEEEEE. coming from my internet cable provider.

We were paying $59 per month for our internet connection and I had it terminated under my husbands name and applied for a new one under my name to get a free Mini Laptop . Anyway we will still pay for the same monthly fee so why not get the freebie.

With a starting weight of just 1.27 kg and only 1.05 inches (27 to 33 mm) thin, the HP 2133 is designed to go where you go without weighing you down. Dont be fooled by its size; this small wonder keeps you ultra-productive.
The notebook features a 8.9in WXGA (1,280 x 768pixels) display and a Qwerty keyboard that is nearly full size. The base specification of the HP Mini will include Windows Vista Home Basic, a 1.2GHz VIA C7 ULV processor, 2GB DDR2 RAM and 120GB hard disk. The Mini will support WiFi (802.11b/g) but several features are optional such as Bluetooth 2.0 and a VGA webcam.

Other features include two USB 2.0 ports, a VGA out, an SD card reader, an ExpressCard/54 slot and an Ethernet port. Also, the notebook features HP 3D DriveGuard, a 3D digital accelerometer motion sensor, that will protect the hard drive from impacts, bumps and drops.

IM VERY EXCITED TO HAVE IT BY JULY 7

CLEAN TOILETS

Pinoys call them CR(Comfort rooms), Brits call it the Loo, Others call it the rest room, Water closet, lavatory etc. In Singapore its just plain TOILET (not twilight, huh!)

Toilets are big things in Singapore
You are in Singapore when :
1) You can see toilet/tissue paper in the toilet cubicle (they never ran out of tissue paper)
2) when you dont have to pay a single cent to enter the toilet (In Europe and US you might have to pay in order to use it)
3) when toilets are spacious and clean
4) when you find toilets like this...(see below)

SLIMMING & CHEWY CREAM PUFFS

Yesterday I claimed the free trial Body Shaping Session that Niles signed me up for on TV.

The session which took over two hours involved putting electric contraptions on my body which gave me some tingling sensations, then a steam bath followed by a body scrub and a thermal blanket wrap. After all these and two hours later they told me that I lost 300 gms(wowee!) and I also lost out to them a little over $600 since I signed up for ten body wrapping sessions. I'll see whether it will really work.

But so much for slimming. Right after my session, I chanced upon this new shop selling cream puffs with such divine names as cream cheese puffs, double chocolate puffs, strawberry and blueberry puffs. They were yummy and chewy.

I guess I gained back the pounds I lost.

Our Christmas Plan is Completed!

Finally I have ironed out everything for our Christmas vacation in December (Dec 20-Jan 4).

I already have our SQ Tickets issued and also our Cebu Pacific Tickets to Boracay on the 21st of December.

I am anticipating that all hotels will be fully booked during this peak season so I also have booked our hotel at Altavista De Boracay Resort, a new condo hotel near Puka Shell beach, a less crowded part of Boracay and just beside the Fairways and Blue Water Resort and the soon to open Shangrila Resort and Spa. From the map it is actually the nearest resort to the Puka Beach and the Bat Caves.

I had been doing my research of Boracay and I certainly dont want to stay at White Beach where apparently there are a lot of clubs and karaoke bars. We encountered the same problem in Krabi when we stayed near a popular beach and our hotel was just beside a karaoke bar. We werent able to sleep the whole night.

This time this resort is quite far from White Beach which means that we would have the beach to ourselves most of the time(hopefully also in December).

Tonys Treat

Its very rare that my husband is so generous enough to treat all of us to a movie and a dinner out. But since he had a good bonus(that is our reason for being in Thailand every end of each month since january)or extra sideline he was so happy he had to share his blessings.

So today we were treated to a movie and dinner at my favorite place,Chomp Chomp.

First, the movie....I wouldnt recommend anyone to see the new Indie movie...its much better to watch Narnia. Its really a big disappointment.

Next is Chomp Chomp. I dont know where this place got its name but whether rain or shine surely there will be a crowd at this place in Serangoon Circle every weekend nights.

We ordered our favorites, beef and chicken satay, spicy sotong(squid), Carrot cake(for Nygel) ,Spicy kangkong and my ultimate barbequed stingray(sarap).

Tata, my sister's Sister in law who is now in Singapore trying to look for a job was the first to try out the spicy sotong and immediately she gulped her icy sugarcane juice ,The verdict..."Ang anghang". But despite our faces turning red because of the chili there was nothing left on our plates after we stood up to go home.

Here are some of our favorites from Chomp Chomp. My suggestion: If you cannot take spicy food you must inform the vendor to cook it with less or no chili at all.
